Taking your baby to a public pool

Getting your baby used to water early is important (from my point of view) and it's really fun too. Most of the child won't be understand to learn how to swim properly until they are two or three, but we can get them to feel confident and relaxed in the water and make swimming a fun way to exercise for them. Here's some tips for mommies who would like to introduce their babies to the swimming pool:

(Note: This article was writed based on my experience, you might want to ask your pediatrician for more information)
  • If you own a private pool on your house you can start as early as 1 month or start to introduce the water to your baby on a bath tub, but if you're going to take your baby to a public pools, i recommend you to begin at around 4 months. Public pools often noisy, so your baby might be put off by all the noise and activity.
  • Check the water's temperature. If the temperature is comfortable for you from the moment you enter the water, it's likely to be comfortable for baby.
  • Limit the amount of time your baby spends in a pool, especially when you first start out. Start off with 10 minutes and build up to 20 minutes. In my case, i limit my baby time in the water to 45 minutes. That's pretty enough for her.
  • Always hold your baby in the pool, and stays within arm's reach of your baby at all times whenever your baby is in or near the water.
  • If your babies already learns to walk, start teaching them not to run when they're near a pool. Also show to them that they must never enter the water without their parents (or any adults). It could be dangerous.
  • Don't forget to bring a towel, preferably one with a hood, or a towelling dressing gown. As soon as your baby starts to shiver, get them out of the pool and wrap 'em up warmly. Also snacks (especially if your baby has started solids. Swimming makes 'em hungry, you'll be amaze on how much food going on their tummy once they get off the pool)
I hope you guys enjoy this article! :)
